About Me

I'm Betsy Kendrick

Welcome!

I'm a painter and sculptor living in Shelby North Carolina.

I received my art training at The Maryland Institute of art in Baltimore and the Leo Marchutz School in Aix-en-Provence France.

My home and studio is nestled in a wooded lot with pines, sweet gum trees and lots of red clay. Lucky for me to have this never ending supply of raw material for sculpting! And the trees and light provide most of what I need as a painter. (Also miraculously there's an art supply store a mile away, on the interstate that connects Charlotte to Asheville.)

Thank you for taking a peek at what I'm making, and feel free to reach out with questions. I do enjoy connecting with my customers!

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

Inspiration

The last leaves of autumn glowing in late afternoon light

When the metal roof of the shed shines like a beacon, for that 30 seconds of the day when the sun hits it just right

The instagram artist who moves paint in a way I’d never dreamed of

The never-ending variety of cloud formations

The trees budding bright red in March

Techniques

I like to stay open to new approaches to my materials (mostly paint and clay). Recently I’ve begun painting with a palette knife rather than a brush which I feel gives my painting a bolder look. When using a palette knife I am making more of a commitment to my strokes of color.

My latest clay creations involve adding light, which hopefully will result in a line of lamps. Stay tuned!
